Good morning Chicago from Austin!
Day Two (Wednesday) was all about emerging artists – Artists like Elliphant blew away audiences with her new-school style of hypnotic beats and her genuine attitude on stage. But the real story of the night was the performance by a new artist to the States, hailing from Belguim, Germany – Stromae. Stromae, stole the night after his performance at a popular Austin BBQ restaurant, Stubbs.
Speaking of Barbecue… It believe it’s a law somewhere that you must partake in BBQ if you have been in Austin for 24 hours. Well, after depriving myself of this purely Texas cuisine I was able to indulge in some of the World Famous Austin BBQ. I was on my way to a show and after smelling a hint of sweet bbq sauce I was carried almost cartoon-like in the air as I floated over to an Austin favorite, Iron Works BBQ. Mmm… Mmm… Not trying to discount my beloved Chicago Pizza and Hot Dogs but, the food down in Austin, Texas is a force to be reckoned with…
Now, back to the Music!
It’s truly incredible to see how these new emerging artists use SXSW as a platform to spread their sound. They’ll preform and depending on the reaction of the audience- critiques will spread through word of mouth on the street, through texts, and now with the dawn of social media.. throughout the twitter/instagram/snapchat Universe at lightning speed. An artists can go from relatively unknown to an overnight sensation. South By Southwest connects people through their love for music and their love for spreading music.
